A New Dawn for Llanboidy

Llanboidy based Gwawr y Dyfodol/Dawn of the Future launch video to raise £5,000
A group of people who are passionate about their community have been working together for some time to try and
obtain funding for much needed facilities in the village and they need your help to achieve success.
They have applied for a grant of £5,000 from the Calor Rural Community Fund to buy indoor and outdoor sports and
keep fit equipment which can be used by people of all ages. Unfortunately there are no such facilities in the village at the moment and a community consultation exercise revealed that such amenities are at the top of peoples’ wish lists.

The scheme is part of a much larger project, Ysbryd y Dyfodol/Spirit of the Future, which aims to build a play and leisure area on land adjacent to Llanboidy Market Hall for everyone in the area and to renovate the Hall. Delyth Bebb, secretary of Llanboidy Market Hall, said “we are so lucky to have such a magnificent Hall, which was built by local squire W R H Powell of Maesgwynne Estate in 1881 to enable local farmers to have an outlet for their products, with the addition of a coffee tavern, reading room and store room. It was a community hub then and we would very much like it to continue to be so, meeting today’s needs.”

Councillor Dorian Phillips said that “having these facilities would help to bring the community together, as well as benefiting their health and wellbeing. The money raised through Crowdfunding would enable us to train local people to run classes and to buy additional equipment.”

Llanboidy and its surrounding area is a rural village in the west of Carmarthenshire and has one of the lowest
populations in the county, with virtually no public transport. Fundraising in such a rural area is not easy during normal times but the pandemic has exacerbated such endeavours.

Only a small number of grants will be allocated so this little community really needs support to compete with other applications from around the UK. Gwawr y Dyfodol is asking for donations and pledges, however large or small – “pocket money” pledges from as little as £1 would be most welcome. Please also like their project page, as this will benefit the outcome of their application. For every “like” the project will receive 1 point and for every donation it will receive 10 points towards the final score. Every donation received will have the potential of earning a reward for the donor, such as free refreshments at the opening ceremony and every donor’s name will appear on a special honours board to be displayed at Llanboidy Market Hall. We can achieve more when we come together.
