A48 closed for two hours after a car and trailer crash

THE A48 between Cross Hands and Carmarthen was closed for around two hours after a car and a trailer crashed off the road.

The incident happened shortly before 3.30pm on Sunday (Jan 5).

The vehicle, which was travelling west between Cross Hands roundabout and Porthyrhyd, left the road near Foelgastell.

An image taken from the scene shows the vehicle and its trailer lying on an embankment on the side of the A48, both having overturned.

Fire crews from Carmarthen and Tumble were in attendance, and a spokesman for Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said firefighters assisted one male patient at the scene.

Police closed the road “to protect the public and those at the scene” and asked people to avoid the area.

Traffic congestion was heavy on the westbound stretch as both lanes were shut, before the right-hand lane reopened while recovery of the vehicles took place.

The Welsh Ambulance Service was called and an emergency ambulance was sent to the scene, however it is understood that nobody suffered any serious injuries.
