A HOTEL which reopened only last year after going into administration has closed its doors six weeks after Magistrates granted a warrant to N-Power in respect of an unpaid electricity bill for the premises in excess of £13,000.The Penrallt Country House Hotel, which marketed itself as providing high end cuisine and luxury accommodation in historic surroundings, had recently been the recipient of a series of adverse reviews on sites such as Trip Advisor, including one which described it as ‘the worst hotel in Wales’.
Leisure facilities at the hotel have been closed for months pending essential repairs. When The Herald visited the hotel recently, there was no sign of works being done anywhere on the site to bring the closed facilities back into use.
Some posts on the Hotel’s Facebook page have been from owners of rival businesses inviting staff left in the lurch by the hotel’s closure to apply for jobs with them.
Local county councillor Gethin James told The Herald: “I understand that the hotel owes a lot of money to a number of small local businesses. I know one business, in particular is owed a significant sum of money for goods it provided to the Hotel. It is always the little guy who loses out. The Hotel only came out of administration last year. On a more positive note, my understanding is that it is the hotel management company which has gone into receivership. The loss of local jobs is a big blow.”
