ELUNED MORGAN, Mid and West Wales AM, will be holding a second public meeting on Thursday (Feb 2) to update members of the public about primary care health services in the Amman Valley.
The meeting is a follow up to a similar event held last October, where patients of the Amman Tawe Partnership turned out to raise concerns about accessing GP services in the Amman and Upper Swansea Valleys.
Over 100 people attended that meeting in Upper Brynamman, organised by Eluned Morgan AM and local Labour Councillor Kevin Madge.
Speaking ahead of Thursday’s meeting, Eluned Morgan AM said: “The turn out last autumn highlighted the real concerns local people have about accessing GP services in parts of the Amman Valley – in particular those provided by the Amman Tawe Partnership.
“Shortly after that meeting, I held talks with Senior Management at Hywel Dda Health Board along with the Community Health Council. I’ve given them time to put in place measures to address the shortcomings that I have highlighted. I have also written to Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Health Board and met directly with the GP involved.
“As patients appreciate, the issues raised are complex, particularly as the practice falls between a number of Local Health Boards. However, none of those challenges are insurmountable – hence my bringing together all parties involved to secure a positive outcome.”
Cllr Kevin Madge, who has been working on this issue for several years, commented: “This meeting is important as Eluned has invited representatives of both local Health Boards and the Community Health Board along to update patients as to their ongoing concerns.
“I would like to extend a welcome to all to turn up to express their concerns and to hear how those in charge are planning to put things right.”
The public are invited to come and hear an update and share their views on GP services in the Amman Valley on Thursday at 7pm at The Aelwyd, Hall Street, Brynaman, SA18 1SG.
