The apprenticeship scheme is made possible through a collaboration with Cyfle Building Skills. Cyfle Building Skills is a multi-award winning regional shared apprenticeship scheme that aims to provide a service which supports young adults into sustainable employment within the construction industry.

During his 3-month placement with MAWWFRS, Rhydian will assist the Estates Department with the maintenance work required to ensure that their fifty-eight fire and rescue stations are capable to deliver a first-class standard of service to their communities.

Peter Jones, Head of Estates for MAWWFRS, said: “As a Fire and Rescue Service we are working towards our obligations to comply to the Wellbeing of Future Generations act. It’s imperative that we support development and provide opportunities to people within the community we serve. There is a skills gap for multiskilled trades people and this type of scheme will help bridge the gap within the industry.”

Anthony Rees, Regional Manager for Cyfle Building Skills, said: “We are thrilled to be working with Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service to create an apprenticeship placement in Carmarthen. The Cyfle Building Skills Shared Apprenticeship Scheme is a stepping stone for young people to achieve a career within the construction industry.  I’m delighted for Rhydian as he can learn his trade and achieve an NVQ Level 2 in carpentry whilst remaining in Carmarthen, the area where he was raised and educated.”
