BUILDING work has started back on Five Roads’ new £4.1million school after it was temporarily suspended as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
It is being built on land adjacent to the existing site and the council is working closely with contractor TRJ Ltd to make sure that works can be carried out safely and in line with Government guidance.
The new school will cater for 120 pupils aged between four and 11, with an additional 30 nursery places, helping to meet the demand for Welsh language education in the area.
It will provide state-of-the-art facilities and accommodation for children and staff, and also includes a multi-use games area that can be shared with the community, as well as off-road parking for staff and visitors and a drop-off area for parents.
The project is part-funded between the council and the Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools initiative.
Executive Board Member for Education and Children’s Services Cllr Glynog Davies said: “I am delighted that work has started back on this new school for Five Roads which will provide the very best educational facilities for both pupils and staff.
“Works also restarted at Ysgol Rhys Prichard and Ysgol Gorslas last month and hopefully we haven’t lost too much time and all these projects can still be completed to our original timetable.
“These projects will help to safeguard valuable jobs in the construction sector and support Carmarthenshire’s economic recovery from this crisis.”
