BUILDING work is re-starting at Bynea, Saron and Llangadog primary schools and Ysgol Y Castell in Kidwelly following the coronavirus pandemic.
A new £4.5million building project is underway at Ysgol Llangadog which involves extending, remodelling and refurbishing the existing school to cater for 120 pupils and 30 nursery children.
It will provide state-of-the-art facilities and accommodation for children and staff that can be shared with the community, as well as off-road parking for staff and visitors.
The works are being carried out by WRW Ltd.
An investment of £7.4million is being made at Ysgol Y Castell to provide a replacement 300 pupil English medium primary school building with additional 23 full time early years places and community facilities including car park, sports pitch and MUGA.
This new school building addresses the demand for places and provides a new school building of appropriate standard as well as providing community facilities for the area.
Lloyd and Gravell Ltd has been appointed as the main contractor.
Two additional infant classroom extensions are being carried out at both Bynea and Saron schools which will help provide additional space and smaller class sizes in the foundation phase.
This will have a positive impact on the education of pupils by raising standards and enriching their learning experience.
A total of £540,000 is being invested at Bynea and £485,000 at Saron.
All the projects are jointly funded between the council and the Welsh Government through the 21st Century Schools initiative.
Executive Board Member for Education and Children’s Services Cllr Glynog Davies said: “It is great news that work can start back on all of these important school projects and hopefully we haven’t lost too much time.
“We are committed to providing the best education possible for our children.”
