Burry Port RNLI tasked multi service operation in cliff rescue

BURRY PORT RNLI were paged to assist two persons trapped on a cliff.

The alert for immediate launch was received at 18.27hrs on Monday May 6, where the two persons were trapped on the cliffs near Worm’s Head Rhossili, in Kitchen’s Corner, by the fast incoming tide.

The Rhossili Coastguard team who had the casualties in sight from above the cliffs, but as they shifted position they lost sight of them.

Both lifeboats were launched, including Rescue Helicopter 187, who was tasked from St Athan.

First on the scene was the faster Atlantic 75, who located the casualties and transferred them onboard to safety.

Shortly followed by the D class Inshore Lifeboat, who assisted the transfer of the occupants from the Atlantic 75, enabling the class D to land the two unharmed persons on to Rhossili Beach.

They were then handed over to the UK Coastguard Rhossili Team.

Rescue Helicopter 187 were almost on the scene, but was stood down, and both Lifeboats returned safely to the Boathouse.

The operation showed an excellent example of team work by all the services involved, with an efficient and positive outcome.
