Burst pipe blocks traffic flow

Screen Shot 2016-02-02 at 11.22.57A MAINS water pipe burst in Lower Town Fishguard on Wednesday (Jan 20) seeing locals being diverted over two miles out of their way to avoid the repairs. 

Following a phone call to locals on Monday evening warning water supplies might be cut off in the town, a water main burst near the Ship Inn pub on Tuesday leaving private contractors to work franticly through the evening to amend the section of pipe which closed the main road through Fishguard towards Cardigan.

“They were doing some work at 2:45 when I went past. Then at 5 when I tried to get into lower town from Fishguard they said it was a burst pipe and everyone had to be diverted through Llanychaer” Explained Emma Bannister Lower Town resident: “at 6:15 they were still fixing it”.

One Facebook user updated locals at 6:47 reporting that the road was still closed when they posted: “A487 Fishguard – Cardigan road is closed at Lower Town”

Dyfed Powys Police tweeted: “Burst water main – bottom of Newport Rd, Lower Town,Fishguard by the Ship Inn PH, Road is closed for 2 hours”

By the late evening the pipe was repaired and the road re-opened to the public.
