Busy afternoon for RNLI rescue missions

BURRY PORT RNLI crews were called into action on Sunday afternoon (May 13) after two groups of people became stranded by the tide.

The first shout came at around 3:30pm, when Burry Port RNLI was paged by UK Coastguard to launch to assist three people cut off by the tide in the Llanelli Beach area, one of whom was reported as being in the water.

The D class ‘Diane Hilary’ was launched, crewed by Gary Morgan, Rhydian and Osian Bowen, and during the launch another ‘cut-off’ was reported with two people stranded near Pembrey Old Harbour.

The Atlantic Lifeboat ‘Alan & Margaret’ was launched crewed by Nick Jones, Titch Evans and Nathan Gower.

The D class arrived at Llanelli Beach, where it was reported that all casualties had made it to safety, but there had been so many public calls that to ensure that no-one was left in the water, Rescue Helicopter 187 was tasked to make a sweep of the area, whilst the D class searched as well.

In the meantime, at Pembrey Old Harbour the two casualties were located and returned to the Boathouse, uninjured but a little wet.

Llanelli Beach was declared as clear, so all units were stood down, and returned to station.

In addition to the two RNLI lifeboats and the Helicopter, Loughor and Burry Port UK Coastguard units were involved in the 2 incidents.
