A DRUNKEN Cardigan man who kicked another man to his head after punching him to the ground has received a suspended prison sentence in the hope that he will grow up.
Aaron Neil Hopkins, aged 21, had admitted causing grievous bodily harm to Daniel MacDonald on November 22 last year.
Hopkins left his victim with a broken eye socket and psychological damage and had been warned to expect a sentence of immediate imprisonment.
But at a sentencing hearing at Swansea Crown Court the judge, Mr Recorder Jonathan Furness, said he would give Hopkins one last chance to mature.
Mr Recorder Furness said the kick delivered by Hopkins had caused serious damage.
Mr MacDonald was nervous about leaving his home even months after the attack.
But sending Hopkins into custody would change his life and there was still hope that during the next two years he would achieve sufficient maturity to stop getting drunk and attacking people.
Hopkins, of Castle Street, was jailed for 13 months, suspended for two years. He was also placed under supervision for two years and ordered to take a thinking skills course and to carry out 180 hours of unpaid work for the community.
