Carmarthen: Climate change activists stage protest at Barclays Bank

TWO people have been arrested in connection with an Extinction Rebellion climate protest in Carmarthen, The Herald understands.

Dyfed-Powys Police have confirmed they were called to the scene of the protest at 09:35AM on Saturday (Jul 6) outside Guildhall Square.

Some of the climate activists glued themselves to the entrance of a Barclays in Carmarthen, or used a bike lock to attach themselves.

About a dozen Extinction Rebellion campaigners protested at the bank over its investment in fossil fuels.

A spokesman said: ““Dyfed-Powys Police was called at 9.35am to a report of a protest taking place outside Barclays Bank, Guildhall Square, Carmarthen. Police attended to ensure public safety was maintained. The protest came to an end at approximately 2pm.

“Two people were arrested in connection with the protest and currently remain in police custody.”

Officers also attended an Extinction Rebellion protest in Aberystwyth.
