C A R M A R T H E N S H I R E comedian Elis James’ new stand-up comedy routine, which follows his first attempts at performing comedy in Welsh, will air this Saturday (Dec 19) on S4C. ‘Elis James: Standyp Rhacs Jibiders’ will be shown on the Welshmedium channel this weekend at 9pm. The new show is James’ first attempt at performing a stand-up routine in his first language. The comedian, who now lives in London with Peep Show’s Isy Suttie and their baby, delivers hilarious anecdotes about his everyday life, such as trying to teach his English partner Welsh in order to bring their baby up bilingually.

Describing the experience as liberating, James has been enjoying making people laugh in his first language. The comedian won the ‘Best Comedy’ prize at the National Student Radio Awards in 2006, and was nominated for ‘Best Club Comic’ in the 2014 Chortle Awards. He has previously featured on Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three), and has been described by The List as ‘a complete joy’ and should be ‘at the top of your list’ of comics to see live (The Fest). James is starring in hit BBC3 sitcom ‘Josh’ with Josh Widdicombe and Jack Dee. He also filmed a lead role in the BBC prison sitcom ‘600 Days’, later renamed ‘Crims’. The sitcom aired on BBC Three in early 2015.
