Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards suspended by Plaid

Jonathan Edwards MP: Remove policing from ‘simplistic one-size-fits-all system’

PLAID CYMRU has suspended the Carmarthen East and Dinefwr MP Jonathan Edwards from its Westminster group.

The party says the move follows Mr Edwards’ arrest when police were called to an incident on May 20.

He was later released without charge pending further inquiries.

His party says withdrawing the whip is a “neutral act” during the police investigation.

A spokesperson said: “On May 20th, Jonathan Edwards MP was arrested following a report of an incident.

The party whip has been withdrawn pending the conclusion of a police investigation.

Mr Edwards has accepted this course of action and is complying fully with the police enquires.

It would be inappropriate for the party to comment further at this time.

Dyfed Powys Police confirmed to The Carmarthenshire Herald that a 44 year old man from Ammanford was arrested on Wednesday. He has been released on bail and the investigation is ongoing.
