Carmarthenshire is at risk – please stick to the rules

Carmarthenshire County Council

PEOPLE living in Carmarthenshire are being urged to follow Covid-19 rules to help prevent spread of the virus.

Community transmission of the virus is a real concern and despite just one part of the county in effective ‘lockdown’, people are being reminded that the whole of Carmarthenshire is on high alert.

A large part of Llanelli is currently designated a health protection zone, with enhanced restrictions in place to try and control an outbreak of Covid-19 concentrated in the area.

However, there are small clusters of positive Covid-19 cases across Carmarthenshire and unless people stick to the rules, it is feared the virus could start to quickly spread.

Cases are being carefully monitored, and Carmarthenshire County Council has warned that the lockdown could be widened to cover the whole of the county if numbers continue to rise.

Currently, there are 66.2 cases per 100,000 in Carmarthenshire as a whole*, including the Llanelli health protection zone.

Updated figures for the Llanelli health protection zone on its own are due to be released as part of the weekly review on Friday.

Cllr Emlyn Dole, Leader of the Council, said: “We really can’t emphasise enough the importance of sticking to the rules – we have a responsibility to protect each other.

“If you are not worried about getting the virus yourself, please consider that people you come in to contact with probably are. Even worse, if you spread the virus to someone more vulnerable than you, it could have fatal consequences.

“We completely understand people’s frustrations, but there are simple rules in place which people should take the time to understand and practice. Please, please do as you’re asked. Let’s work together on this and do the right thing.”

  • Wear a face covering indoors and on public transport
  • Only socialise in max groups of six people from our extended household ‘bubble’ – this is a max of four households (note: these rules are different if you live in the Llanelli ‘health protection zone’, see below)
  • Provide full contact details when visiting business premises as part of NHS Test, Trace, Protect
  • Work from home wherever possible
  • And all licensed premises must stop serving alcohol at 10pm, and have to close by 10.20pm, as well as having robust measures in place to protect customers
