Carmarthenshire man, 40, was on doomed plane

IT IS UNDERSTOOD that the British National on board the flight MS804 from Paris to Cairo, which crashed into the sea in the early hours of Thursday morning (May 19), is from Carmarthenshire.

The man has been named locally as Rich​​ard Osman and a list of passengers on the flight has circulated on social media.

It is believed that the Airbus A320 crashed into the Mediterranean Sea around 1:30am (BST) shortly after it disappeared from radar.
When the plane disappeared it was 280km (174 miles) from the Egyptian coast.
The airspace was also quiet and weather was clear when the plane went missing.
EgyptAir have said that the plane was carrying 56 passengers – 30 Egyptians, 15 French and 10 other nationalities, including one Briton and a further 10 crew members on board.
It is not clear how the crash occurred but authorities and although no conclusion has been drawn, it is believed that the crash could have been the result of a terror attack.
The Foreign Office has tweeted that they are in contact with the family of a British National believed to be on board the plane.
The Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs, Phillip Hammond also tweeted: “Deeply concerned by missing #EgyptAir. Can confirm British passport holder was on board & FCO is supporting the missing passenger’s family.”
He later said: “My thoughts are with the family and friends of all those missing following the disappearance of EgyptAir’s flight MS804. We are in close contact with Egyptian and French authorities and have offered the Egyptian authorities our support in their search and rescue efforts.
“We know that one British passport holder boarded the flight in Paris and our staff are providing support and assistance to the family at this difficult time. We will continue to help in any way we can.”
Tributes have been paid to the man, believed to have family in Swansea, on social media sites.
MP for Carmarthen East and Dinefwr Jonathan Edwards also tweeted: “Thoughts are with the family of the man originally from Carmarthen missing on #EgyptAir.”
As the rescue mission got underway, Reuters reported that debris was being picked up from the Mediterranean with two plastic objects being found 50 miles (80km) south of where the plane disappeared.

The captain of a ship involved in the search also posted photos showing debris, believed to be a lifejacket, floating in the sea.

An air and sea search is being conducted over the Mediterranean with a number of different countries involved in the mission.
Greek TV also reported that Aircraft parts have been found in the sea as part of the search for missing EgyptAir flight MS804.
