Families in Carmarthenshire are being encouraged to celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE day from home.
A revised programme of events, in response to coronavirus, means that people can still commemorate and give thanks to the Second World War generation from the safety of their own home on Friday, May 8.
Families can take part by observing the two-minute silence at 11am and holding themed 1940s afternoon tea in their homes or gardens. They can also decorate their properties and windows with bunting.
Children can get involved by colouring special edition posters which are available to download on the VEDay75 website and then displaying them in their front windows.
At 3pm the nation will come together to raise a glass to toast and give thanks to the heroes of WW11.
Families are also encouraged to enjoy a moment of celebration and thanksgiving by taking part in a UK-wide rendition of Dame Vera Lynn’s ‘We’ll Meet Again’ at 9pm.
BBC One will feature the nationwide singalong as part of its VE Day 75 evening broadcast.
Carmarthenshire County Council’s armed forces champion, Cllr David Jenkins said: “There’s a host of things people can do from the safety of their own home to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the end of the Europe war, and it’s important we still do so despite the original plans being scaled down due to the coronavirus outbreak. We call all play a part from our homes or workplaces to remember those who gave so much to ensure we all enjoy and share the freedom we have today.”
