Clear majority supports removing Picton memorials

A HERALD online poll shows a strong majority in favour of removing statues and other memorials to Sir Thomas Picton.

The online poll, carried on our Facebook page, received 999 votes before it closed on Thursday morning (June 11).

Our poll asked ‘Do you think statues or other historical monuments celebrating the life of Sir Thomas Picton should be removed?’

562 respondents (56.3%) of those who responded said the memorials should be removed with just under 39% of respondents opposing their removal. Just under 5% said they did not know or did not know enough about the issue to respond.

A blue plaque on a private residence in Haverfordwest was removed on Thursday amid fears it could become a focus for vandalism.
