Convicted murderer stabbed door to mimic Hitchcock classic

A CONVICTED murderer stabbed a door at his Carmarthen home in front of his girlfriend while imitating the horror shower scene from the film Psycho.

David Wyn Davies, aged 38, pretended to be Norman Bates and made the terrifying sounds accompanying the Hitchcock thriller.

But, said Davies, it was not on the day his girlfriend claimed he tried to stab her and strangle her during a domestic dispute at their home in Brewery Road.

Davies denied assault and making a threat to kill and was cleared after a trial at Swansea Crown Court.

But he remains in jail after being recalled to serve more of his life sentence following the alleged incident in June.

Davies was jailed for life in 2005 for the murder of Peter Bowen in Swansea city centre in June, 2000. He beat and kicked Mr Bowen and stabbed him twice, and resumed the attack even as rescuers tried to treat his victim.

Davies was initially jailed for nine years for grievous bodily harm. But Mr Bowen died four years later and Davies was later convicted of murder.

He told the jury he served 16 years, one month and four days before being released on licence in July, 2016.

Davies, who described himself as a Carmarthen man, met Rebecca Butcher via the internet and when he moved back to the town she agreed to join him.

27-year-old Miss Butcher said she became pregnant and Davies thought he was the father, but he wasn’t.

She told the jury that on their last day together Davies locked her out of their home during a row and later tried to strangle her and threatened to kill her.

She said he bit her face and stabbed a kitchen door three of four times while threatening to kill her.

Miss Butcher dialled 999 and police found a single stab mark in the door.

Davies was arrested and kept in custody.

Davies told the court Miss Butcher had made the allegations because she knew that he would be recalled to prison if he was so much as accused of violence.

He agreed that police had found a mark on the kitchen door where he had stabbed it but said that was while he had been pretending to be Norman Bates and said it had not happened during the row.

Davies said Miss Butcher had been a film buff and he asked her to guess the film–and was not impressed when she couldn’t.

Davies said an injury to Miss Butcher’s face had not been from a bite but from an accidental clash of heads.

The jury returned unanimous verdicts of not guilty.

Davies’ next release date will be decided by the Parole Board.
