TWO prominent councillors have been recognised by Britain’s top satirical and current affairs magazine for the important work they do for the county.

Cllrs Mike Stoddart and Jacob Williams, both opposition members to IPPG, the party which rules the council, were praised by Private Eye for holding their colleagues on the council to account, and for writing excellent blogs highlighting the inside workings of Pembrokeshire’s local authority.

In its Rotten Boroughs column, which focuses on the corrupt goings on of local politics in the UK, the magazine wrote: “As well as having some of the most spineless incompetent and venal councillors in Britain, Pembrokeshire is lucky in having two independent members who are tenacious in holding their colleagues to account.”

As well as writing blogs at jacobwilliams.com and oldgrumpy.co.uk, their excellent articles are often reproduced in Pembrokeshire’s Best Magazine, the sister publication to The Pembrokeshire Herald.

At 26 Cllr Williams is the youngest county councillor. Representing East Williamston since 2012.

Cllr Stoddart, along with his wife Vivian, who is also now a councillor used to own and operate The Milford & West Wales Mercury until they sold out to Newscom 15 years ago. The Stoddart family started the paper in 1992. The title is currently owned by Newsquest.

Mike ‘Old Grumpy’ Stoddart will be 76 in a few weeks.
