County residents given waste amnesty

"Mae bod yn Gymro yn fater o hunaniaeth ddiwylliannol felly rwy’n meddwl bod yr iaith yn bwysig.”

TYISHA residents are being given a ‘Waste Amnesty’ by Carmarthenshire County Council on Thursday March 26. The event will take place between 9am and 2pm and residents can leave assorted rubbish in skips that will be set up on the lay by outside the 5 Ty’s in Station Road.

There will be advisors on site including housing officers from the council and police community support officers who will be on hand to offer advice and give information. The event has been organised in partnership with Tidy Towns.

Various household items are acceptable, for example, televisions, freezers and fridges, furniture and household waste. However, garden chemicals, paint, car batteries, tyres, asbestos, gas bottles and trade waste will not be accepted. Residents disposing of any waste items will also get a free bag of Merlin’s Magic Compost (while stocks last) courtesy of CWM Environmental Ltd.

Executive Board Member for technical services Cllr Colin Evans said: “We want to encourage residents to dispose of their rubbish responsibly and recycle as much as possible. This is an excellent opportunity to get rid of larger, bulky items; particularly for people that don’t have their own transport; and to speak to officers first hand. These events make a big difference to the community and will hopefully help us to increase our recycling rate and reduce the amount of rubbish going to landfill.”
