County welcomes Peace Run

Screen Shot 2016-04-05 at 14.06.04THE Chairman of Carmarthenshire County Council has welcomed a peace run to the National Botanic Garden.

Councillor Peter Hughes Griffiths was at the Garden to welcome the participants in the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run.

They arrived at the Garden on Sunday morning before the start of a 5km race and 2.5km Fun Run at 9am.

Cllr Hughes Griffiths presented the prizes before helping Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas to unveil a peace statue in a new peace garden area.

He said: “It was excellent. We unveiled a bronze statue at the Botanic Garden. I’m pleased to support the effort to promote peace in this country and internationally.”

Cllr Hughes Griffiths again met the peace runners on Monday morning when they called in at County Hall before moving on to Ysgol y Dderwen to meet the Town Mayor and Head teacher.

John Evans of the Peace Run said: “There is a certain heroism in the Peace Run. Of course we salute the runners for their bravery and determination in getting out on the road every day.”

“But what we really notice is that when people have the opportunity to hold the peace torch and make their own private wish for peace, their faces change. When they take a moment to reflect inwardly, and really connect with the idea of peace, you can see it changing them.”

“For that moment they shine. It gives us all hope for a brighter future. But don’t take our word for it, come and see for yourselves,” he added.
