Delays expected during A48 roadworks

a48REPAIRS to a pipeline running under the A48 between Carmarthen and Nantycaws will cause disruption on the roads for the next six weeks, motorists have been warned.

The road will be closed from today (Sep 20) until Friday, October 28 as repairs are carried out to the pipeline to “ensure continued safety,” says Mainline Pipelines Ltd who own the line.

During this period there will be diversions in place using the old Nanytcaws bypass.

Councillor for Llangunnor, Elwyn Williams, has warned that drivers in the area will face “gridlock” as traffic is diverted from the busy stretch of road.

Speaking to the BBC yesterday (Sep 19), Jenny Fox from the Carmarthen Chamber of Trade and Commerce said: “There will obviously be an impact on businesses because we are one of the main route centres of west Wales.

“We realise that there’s a huge dual carriageway that goes through, and a lot of people use it, from Ireland, from all over really, and we understand it is going to have an impact on the town.”

Motorists are being urged to plan ahead and allow for added time to their journeys in case of delays.
