Design project gives students food for thought

transition123AS FISHGUARD’S Transition Community Cafe goes from strength to strength, students on the interactive media course at Pembrokeshire College were called upon to develop an overarching design theme for the cafe as it approached its first birthday.

With various materials already in place for the Cafe, Tracy Whistance, Projects Development Officer funded by Environment Wales, and Chris Samra, director of Transition Bro Gwaun, approached the College to see if students would be interested in developing an overall ‘look’ for the cafe moving forward. As would be expected with a community cafe, all the designs were put to the management board and customers were asked to vote for their favourite with Dafydd Emlyn Davies, aged 17, from Cardigan, being chosen as the overall winner. After working with the College, Tracy commented: “I was really impressed with all the designs and would have been happy with any one of them. I have been really impressed with the talent pool that exists at the College and the professionalism of the students. It is great to see the design in use around the cafe”. Dafydd’s designs formed part of the display that Transition Bro Gwaun took to the Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts which saw the community cafe secure a further £10,000 of funding when it won the Future Dragon Den Award. First year student Dafydd commented: “I’m really enjoying the interactive media course. I took elements of the existing logo to build a bigger brand for the cafe utilising a dark green to reflect the eco-friendly nature of the business.” Anyone interested in the interactive media course should contact the College on 0800 9 776 788 .
