Distraction burglary in Aberystwyth by three men claiming to be from water board

POLICE are urging people to be vigilant following a reported distraction burglary in Aberystwyth over the weekend.

Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of an ongoing burglary at the home of elderly residents in the Waunfawr area at 2.21pm on Saturday, August 22.

Three men claiming to be from the water board attended the address and distracted the occupants in the back garden, while cash was stolen from a front room.

The occupants became suspicious and the three men left on foot.

Police enquiries began immediately with an area search to trace the suspects, house to house calls and CCTV enquiries. Patrols will continue in the area today.

Anyone with information about this crime or similar occurrences are asked to contact Dyfed-Powys Police, quoting reference DPP/0051/22/08/2020/01/C.

Detective Inspector Antony Panter said: “Following this incident, we are urging people to be alert when they answer the door to unexpected callers.

“Always ask for identification, and if in doubt, do not let callers into your home and phone the police.”
