Faith becomes Oakwood’s Director of Fun

A 13-YEAR OLD girl from Llanmiloe, Carmarthenshire, has been chosen by Wales’ largest theme park to help park owners ensure the attraction is working hard to offer the best possible experience to young visitors.

Following a two-month search, Oakwood Theme Park has selected Faith Dee McDermott to become one of its three Directors of Fun, battling stiff competition from across the country for the role.

The Pembrokeshire-based attraction, which first opened its doors thirty years ago, is giving the three Directors of Fun the chance to spend time with senior executives at Oakwood to share their thoughts and ideas on what they love about the park and how it can be improved.

Faith caught the attention of Oakwood bosses after sending in a cleverly-written poem about the park as part of her application.

Faith, who attends Dyffryn Taf school, said: “I didn’t expect to get the role because I knew how many people would have applied. I decided to write a poem for my application because I wanted to do something a bit different.

“I’m a big fan of Oakwood and their rides are awesome, especially, Megafobia. I love meeting new people and discovering new things. I’m really interested to hear about how the park designs and implements new rides, areas and events, and am looking forward to being involved in the process.”

Sue Elaiho, Director of Oakwood Theme Park, said “We are so happy to be welcoming Faith as one of our Directors of Fun. Her application showed her true appreciation of Oakwood Theme Park and its family-friendly values, which we thought was fundamental in finding the perfect person for our new role.

“Hearing the thoughts of the public is very important to us at Oakwood so that we can consistently provide an attraction of the highest quality, that Pembrokeshire, and Wales alike, is proud to call its own. We are continually looking at ways to improve Oakwood and continue to offer attractions that people love, which is what inspired us to search for our Directors of Fun.

“We had so many incredible entries, and it was extremely difficult to narrow them down to just three. We look forward to hearing more of Faith’s ideas, and hearing what she thinks we can improve for our young visitors.”

As well as having the opportunity to share her thoughts with park bosses, Faith will also bag herself a family annual pass to the amusement park, home to the world-famous wooden rollercoaster Megafobia, as part of the role.
