Fear of job losses at Carmarthen’s Tesco

JOBS could be at risk at Tesco in Carmarthen after the supermarket announced that there would be changes within the electrical department.

The store will still have an electrical section, however it will contain an interactive help point, rather than be staffed by employees.

Now there are fears that the store, on Morfa Lane, could see redundancies.

Tesco insist however that staff from the department will be offered roles in different areas of the company and say that the change is to enhance the customer experience.

A spokesperson said: “Across the UK we’re making some changes in a number of our stores, including our Carmarthen Extra store, to help us run them more simply and deliver the best possible service for customers.

“In our Carmarthen Extra this will see the replacement of our electricals desk with a new interactive help point where customers can call a colleague to come and assist them.

“Where there have been changes to a colleague’s role we are working with them to help find alternative roles.”

No date for the changes have yet been announced by the company.
