THERE has been a public outcry on social media after it was announced that The Old Point House in Angle is set to close its doors on Sunday, with no plans to re-open.
The manager of the premises has posted the following on the pub’s Facebook page: “It is with great sadness that I must announce that the Old Point House will be closing its doors on
Sunday 5th January. unfortunately, there are no present plans to re-open!
“The next few days we will be open as follows: Friday 12-8, Saturday 12 onwards farewell party, Sunday 12-4 last Sunday dinner. Anyone wishing to say goodbye will be most welcome
Many thanks to you all. Love Karen x.”
Fans of the public house have taken to social media to express their disappointment and sadness at the decision – which some say has been brought on by more of the houses in the village being bought as holiday lets making local businesses struggle in the winter months.
Kimberley Robinson said: “There was always an old superstition that said if you let the fire go cold it would bring bad luck.”
Robert Abrams added: “This is very sad to hear. Many generations of my family supped at the pub and a very, very long-time ago on of my ancestors was the publican.”
Sheila Caroline Cleevely was equally disappointed. She posted: “This is a great shame … as young girl our Annual family trip in boat would be across to Angle to see the fire “that never went out “ … have visited many times , also with my sons later in Life … sad day for village too.”
