Firefighter cleared of sexual assault

Swansea Crown Court

A FIREFIGHTER has been found not guilty of sexually assaulting one of his colleagues.

David Richard Lewis, 40 from Carmarthen, was cleared on all five counts this afternoon (Jul 19).

He was accused of touching a woman’s breasts and bottom between May 2014 and October 2015, however he claims he only touched her on her shoulders.

Swansea Crown Court heard he was was an ‘energetic, kind and hardworking family man’ from glowing character references.

Following an internal investigation, Mr Lewis was dismissed from the fire service and now works as a lorry driver.

The complainant broke down in tears as she gave evidence via a video link.

Mr Lewis admitted pulling down the complainant’s trousers in a game known as ‘kegging’, however he says this was only after she had done it to him first.

He said that practical jokes did happen in the workplace but called them ‘workplace banter’.
