Dyfed-Powys Police has issued a fresh warning about automated telephone scams following a spate of reports in the Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader and Builth Wells areas.
Several people have received unsolicited calls from a well-spoken male voice, claiming to work for HMRC.
The recorded message goes on to mention supposed outstanding payments and warns of a possible warrant for arrest, before telling the householder to press 1 to speak to an operator.
Police have issued the following tips to keep you – and vulnerable friends and family – safe:
*Remember it is OK not to speak with cold callers – if you feel something is wrong just put the phone down
*Telephone numbers and text messages can easily be spoofed. You should never trust the number you see on your telephone’s display
*Do not enter into conversation with someone you do not know, provide them with any personal details or send them any money
*If you are concerned please contact police on 101, or Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040
*If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired you can also text the force’s non-emergency number on 07811 311 908
