GAS EMERGENCY and pipeline service, Wales and West Utilities, are set to recruit 25 new apprentices to work across Wales and south-west England.
This influx of new recruits come as part of the company’s ongoing commitment to investing in colleagues to ensure that they have the skills, confidence and innovative thinking to perform their roles impeccably.
It is expected of the new apprentices that they share the company’s drive to continue to deliver excellent customer service whilst maintaining the gas network that serves approximately 7.5 million people across Wales and southwest England.
The newest recruits of Wales and West Utilities will be based across the company’s operating area. The threeyear apprenticeship programme will aid recruits in developing the skills needed to deliver a fast and efficient service.
This year’s recruitment comes after the company took on 22 apprentices back in 2015, pursuing its aim of attracting more young people into the gas industry.
The 2016 intake will focus on the company’s Build and Repair teams that maintain existing gas equipment and lay new gas supply pipes, as well as Mechanical Engineers and Electrical Engineers for Network Services teams who maintain the control systems of the gas network.
The apprenticeship opportunities will be advertised through the company’s website and social media channels as well as through local schools, colleges and Job Centre Plus.
A selection of hopeful applicants will be invited to assessment centres in June, and the successful candidates will start their induction at Wales & West Utilities’ £3m training academy in Treforest, South Wales in September.
