SECURITY is tight at the County Archives Office in Haverfordwest tonight as counting gets underway for the European Parliamentary Election.

Police and council workers have cordoned off the building, to ensure there are no interruptions to the democratic process.

The count is being overseen by the returning officer, Chief Executive of Pembrokeshire County Council, Ian Westley.

32 candidates from eight political parties stood to be one of four MEPs to represent Wales in Brussels.

The three-day delay to counting was to allow voting to be completed across all 28 European Union member states.

The Welsh results will be declared in Haverfordwest tonight, with results expected just before midnight.

The results will be broadcast live from Haverfordwest on major TV networks, news channels and national radio.
