A HEALTH CARE project which will ‘future-proof local health and social services has been welcomed by a local GP. The new Cylch Caron Integrated Resource Centre will be a community resource centre that will become a central hub for a fully integrated health and social care service for the town and the surrounding area. Tregaron-based Doctor, Sion James said: “The overarching principle laying the foundation for this project is that patients should receive care as close to home as possible.

In Tregaron GP Surgery we are already working together with Tregaron Community Hospital and Bryntirion care home to meet the needs of our patients who are living longer and have increasingly complex needs. “At the moment we are making do with the facilities we have but when the Centre is built we will benefit not only from having a modern, purposebuilt building but from the added value that comes from working closely across professional boundaries – improved communications that result in a better service for our patients. “The local health community is already laying the groundwork for when we have the building in place.

At present we provide a comprehensive service to our patients; from dealing with minor injuries and surgeries, to screening for conditions such as diabetes, hosting Midwife clinics and plenty in-between. “I’m local to Tregaron, I grew up here and now live here with my wife and 3 children. I hope to grow old here and use the Cylch Caron Centre, myself. I look forward to working on the project to make it work for the local community.” Cylch Caron will provide a brand new building designed to provide health and social care services together with specialist housing for individuals with care needs at the heart of Tregaron.

This new building will replace the existing Tregaron Community Hospital, Bryntirion care home and Tregaron GP surgery. In a visit on Thursday, 24 March, Minister for Health and Social Services Mark Drakeford announced the purchase of the land for the Cylch Caron project. The development, led by Ceredigion Local Service Board, represents a total investment of £8.1m by Ceredigion County Council, Hywel Dda University Health Board and Welsh Government to deliver the vision of sustainable services in one of the most rural parts of Wales.
