A SWANSEA-BASED builder has revealed it contributed almost £500,000 into the area in 2017 – with more than £2m to come this year.
Persimmon Homes West Wales, the regional branch of the housebuilding giant, built 657 houses in 2017 in Pembroke, Narberth, Carmarthen, Ffos Las, Cross Hands, Swansea, Llanelli and Neath.
Persimmon agrees to contribute huge sums on money towards things like highways, education and open spaces through Section 106 agreements during the planning process.
In 2017 the company paid out £469,152. A further £2,020,500 is pledged in 2018.
Andy Baker-Edwards, director in charge at Persimmon Homes West Wales, said: “We are proud of the impact we continue to have in the South-West Wales area.
“Each year we build hundreds of much-needed homes. On top of that we are providing thousands of jobs, affordable housing for Local Authorities and hundreds of thousands of pounds towards infrastructure and community improvements.
“Construction is a crucial part of the overall economy. It keeps things moving. We are pleased to be leading the way in this area and have plans for further expansion in the years to come.”
The largest single Section 106 contribution in 2017 was £371,834 to Carmarthenshire County Council.
A total of £97,318.76 was also handed to Pembrokeshire County Council for community facilities and education as part of the Martello Park development in Pembroke.
The largest contribution to come this year will be at £407,825 towards education provision as part of the Dol Yr Ysgol development in Bridgend, on top of a £75,000 contribution towards active travel.
