A WOMAN jumped off a waterfall in the Breacon Beacons on Tuesday (Aug 16) which prompted a rescue operation which involved more than 20 people.

The Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team were called to Glynneath after receiving reports that a woman had fallen from the top of Scwd y Gwladus waterfall.

The rescue operation also involved the Welsh Ambulance Service’s HART team, as well as Brecon Mountain Rescue team and Central Mountain Rescue team.

The woman had jumped from the top of the waterfall and as a result suffered injuries to her lower legs after landing in the pool below.

She was then taken to Morriston Hospital in Swansea with what was suspected to be a broken leg.

A spokesman for the Western Beacons Mountain Search and Rescue Team said: “It never ceases to be a source of amazement to those we help that we are all volunteers.

“To have more than 20 rescuers on scene very late on a midweek night when it’s a working day the following day serves to highlight yet again the dedication of those involved in Mountain Rescue both here in South Wales and right across the UK.

“We’d like to express our best wishes to the casualty for a speedy recovery.”
