Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Assembly Member, Angela Burns was a guest of Bombora recently when visiting their MWave Test tank and receiving an update on the Wave Power project that is currently being constructed to harness tidal energy of the western coast of Pembrokeshire.
The £17 million project hopes to have the flexible membrane design operational from next year and will sit on the seabed or on silts and operate without any disturbance to sea life by using the changes in tidal pressure to pump air through a turbine to generate power to feed into the national power grid.
Commenting after the visit, Angela said “I met with Bombora’s Managing Director Sam Leighton at their offices in Pembroke Dock and heard about their ambitious plans for developing sustainable energy sources and was grateful for the opportunity to visit the test tank and receive an update on this ground breaking and fascinating project.
“At a time when climate change is dominating the news and the political agenda it is reassuring to see that this innovative renewable energy project is so close to launching a pilot.
“Pembrokeshire is becoming a key part of the UK’s energy supply and I am delighted that companies such as Bombora are using the natural resources around Pembrokeshire to help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels and assist Wales and the UK in increasing renewable power production”.
