A ST MIKE’S schoolgirl from Llanelli, Carmarthenshire is set to dazzle this summer when she advances to the next stage of one of the top three biggest and most prestigious beauty pageants in the world.

A dream has become a reality for Rachel Webber, who has managed to make it through to the United Kingdom final of Miss Teen Earth, which will take place in May at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham.

Rachel will be representing the whole of Carmarthenshire in the UK finals, and if successful in this next stage, she will be jetting off to Vienna, Austria to represent the whole of the UK.

Miss Teen Earth is celebrating its sixteenth year of beauty and responsibility. After the eventual ecobeauty winner is crowned, she will be joining over 110 different countries vying for the chance to become an ambassador for a host of different environmental protection campaigns worldwide.

She has been helping to promote the three R’s – Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – by attending and supporting personal appearances at environmental campaigns across Carmarthenshire. She has also been busy participating in voluntary activities with an environmental theme, such as beach clean-ups, awareness raising campaigns and street litter pickups.

Rachel said: “It’s my dream to win the national or international title of Miss Teen Earth because it’s unique in terms of beauty pageants as it has a positive message of promoting environmental awareness across the world.

“The country winners are not only natural and intelligent but share a common interest of a love for our planet. Miss Teen Earth gives me the opportunity to raise awareness about my home town of Llanelli, Carmarthenshire and caring for the environment.

“Having the opportunity to compete in such a big and prestigious competition at my age is a fantastic achievement and a blessing.”

Rachel continued, saying that she is looking forward to working closely with her sponsor Neat Teeth Orthodontics in Swansea to help the business promote awareness for a clean and healthy environment within Carmarthenshire and Swansea.

She will also be working to support both local and national charities, including Beauties for a Cause UK and Girls4Trees, both of which were founded by the Miss Earth foundation to help support environmental awareness as well as animal protection and conservation.

Derek McDonagh, Regional Managing Director at Macdonald Burlington Hotel, said: “We are delighted to host the final of Miss Earth UK and to celebrate with these goal-oriented and committed individuals, not only in the local area but from across the country too.

“Macdonald Hotels and Resorts are committed to extensive environmental and sustainability initiatives, which is in line with Miss Earth UK’s commitment to playing a part in preserving and protecting the environment for future generations.

“As a city centre hotel and part of the largest independently owned hotel group in the UK, it is of paramount importance that we support these initiatives and celebrate those who are committed to doing the same. With world-class shopping and fashion on our doorstep, a beauty pageant couldn’t be more fitting.”

The current Miss Earth, Katrina Kendall from London, described her time at Miss Earth: “It was such an amazing experience to take part in one of the world’s biggest beauty events with a difference! I learned so much about the importance of protecting the environment and that even small changes can make a big difference.”

Rachel said that her primary reason for entering the Miss Earth pageant is because being a beauty queen is something which many people admire and aspire to be.

She states that she has already gained much more confidence through being selected to represent the entirety of Carmarthenshire, all whilst being supported by her family, her friends and local businesses.
