“Milford local” in morning’s major M4 collision

A SERIOUS collision has taken place along the motorway between J45 at Ynysforgan and  J46 at Llangyfelach eastbound, among those involved were two Milford Haven men.

Mid and West Wales Fire Service crews from Morriston and Neath are helping at the scene which involved a lorry and van which caught fire at the road-side near Swansea.

Two ambulances along with a rapid response vehicle and the Welsh Ambulance Service’s hazardous area response team were also at the scene.

A male from the Peugeot van which was alight obtained fatal injuries and has died and from the same vehicle a male has been taken to Morriston Hospital.

A Facebook user first posted the details that the Milford local had been killed to social media before mid-day, causing residents and family-friends to express their condolences.

Investigation into the cause of the crash has the road being closed leading to tailbacks almost nine miles long to Junction 48 leading to the A4138 at Hendy, Carmarthenshire.

South Wales Police issued this statement earlier today: “We are investigating a fatal road traffic collision which happened on the M4 in Swansea earlier today”

“The incident happened at 6.13am on the eastbound carriageway between junctions 45 and 46.”

“A male passenger of a Peugeot Partner van has suffered fatal injuries. The driver has been taken to Morriston Hospital.”

“South Wales Police family liaison officers are supporting next of kin at this time.”

“As a result of the collision the eastbound carriageway remains closed while recovery of the vehicle and scene investigation continues. Diversions are in place.”

“An investigation into the circumstances of the collision is continuing and any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the events leading up to it and were unable to stop at the time are asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number 1600049047.”
