Mark Williams MP: Calling for the review of S4C to happen soon

MARK WILLIAMS, Member of Parliament for Ceredigion and Leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats, has called for further details from the Government of the independent review into S4C’s funding during the Welsh Affairs Committee hearing in Parliament.

An independent review into the remit and future funding of S4C was announced in February 2016, yet the review has yet to take place.

Following questions from Mark Williams at the Welsh Affairs Committee evidence session, Wales Office Minister Guto Bebb stated that the terms of reference and Chair of the review would, he hoped, be announced by the end of the financial year. As for the freeze on the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) component of S4C’s funding, this would be subject to the usual lobbying of DCMS.

Mark said: “It is a huge disappointment that the review has not yet begun. We must not see any cut in the DCMS contribution to S4C, and I hope that politicians of all parties can work together on this. With a new Ministerial team at DCMS, I hope that we do not have to remind the Government about how important S4C is to Wales.”
