A CELEBRATION by a national company brought back childhood memories for one Assembly Member this week.

Mid and West Wales AM, Neil Hamilton joined Ammanford Pharmacist Meleri Williams, at an event in Cardiff,  where Boots UK celebrated 120 years of care in Wales.

Neil Hamilton, said: “I was delighted to meet Meleri from my childhood town of Ammanford as it brought back many happy memories for me.

“Boots has been a staple feature of our high streets for such a long time and I can remember spending my pocket money on their barley sugar twists!

“It was a pleasure to be able to meet Meleri and her colleagues and to hear more of the work that is done in our Boots stores in Mid and West Wales to improve the health of our community and I was delighted to be a part of the celebration.”

Boots, the UK’s leading pharmacy-led health and beauty retailer, brought its distinctive blue and white logo to its first store in Wales in 1896.

Today there are 114 stores and more than 2,800 colleagues working in the heart of communities across Wales and it is one of the largest employers of trained healthcare professionals in the country outside the NHS, offering pharmacy, opticians and hearing care services.

Boots in Ammanford’s Pharmacist, Meleri Williams said: “I thoroughly enjoyed representing my team in Ammanford and being a part of the 120th celebration in Cardiff Bay. I am really proud that Boots has such strong roots in Wales and to see of all the work that we do to support our local community in Ammanford being celebrated.”

Around one in eight Boots employees in Wales have worked for the company for more than 25 years and 40 colleagues are celebrating over 40 years of service.

The company sees itself as being an important part of high streets across the nation and playing a leading role in the delivery of front line public health services.
