Screen Shot 2016-03-01 at 10.14.10THE MAYOR of Carmarthen cut the ribbon on the opening of a new shop in Guildhall Square.

Run by Ben Creamer, Elephants and Bananas is home to works from over 30 artists. Most are locally based, but a few come from further afield. As well as original paintings and prints, Ben, who makes slate products himself, has gathered an impressive display of works in wood, metal and ceramics, as well as having displays of jewellery and other hand crafted products.

After cutting the ribbon, Councillor Barry Williams said: “On behalf of Carmarthen Town Council members I welcome this new business venture to our Town Centre and I am particularly pleased to see it being run by a local boy, Ben Creamer. We already have a cluster of art shops and galleries trading in King Street but this is a welcome addition in the Guildhall area. I would like to wish Ben all the success for the future in this bold enterprise.”

Ben has been supported by family and friends to get the business off the ground, and the shop now offers an impressive display over two floors. Ben said: “The location is ideal being right in the middle of town. On display are original products suitable for every occasion and every pocket, all of which are hand crafted. I am pleased to be the shop window for so many artists whose work will be of interest to everyone who comes shopping in Carmarthen.”

When asked about the unusual name of the shop Ben said: “There is no deep mysterious connotation. It came about as a response to my son asking what I was doing for lunch!

“If it’s a talking point that attracts people to see what’s for sale, then it’s a good name. But once inside I am sure they will find something that’s just right for themselves or for a friend or relative.”
