CARMARTHEN’S new Mayor was presented with his chains of office in a ceremony at the Guildhall on Friday (May 13).
Cllr Wyn Thomas took over from outgoing Mayor Barry Williams in what could be one of the last Mayormaking ceremonies to take place at the Guildhall before it is closed next month.
Cllr Alun Lenny was elected as Deputy Mayor, while Carmarthen’s new Sheriff is Emlyn Schiavone.
Members of Carmarthen Chamber of Trade were among those in attendance, along with local MP Simon Hart, the recent Chair of Carmarthenshire County Council Peter Hughes Griffiths, and other town and county councillors.
This was followed by a dignified but joyful Civic Service at Priordy chapel on Sunday, in which the new Mayor took part, along with children and younger people, with a timely message by the Reverend Beti-Wyn James.
