New website puts council services at your fingertips

MORE and more council services are being made available at the touch of a button with the launch of Carmarthenshire County Council’s new look website.

As the number of people going online continues to grow, the council is making it easier for people to get information and report issues at any time of day or night.

The new site – www.carmarthenshire.gov.wales – has been designed to help people find what they’re looking for quickly, with topical issues highlighted across the site.

It is completely mobile responsive which means council information will be available on the go across smartphones, tablets and other devices.

The council’s marketing and media team has also worked with focus groups to ensure the site is accessible, including features allowing people to hear the website being read aloud by a screen reader, or translated in to any language of their choice.

Cllr Emlyn Dole, Leader and executive board member for marketing and media, said: “Our website has on average 3,560 hits every day, and our visitor numbers are consistently growing. The new look site will make it easier for residents to access the information they need when they want and how they want, be it on a mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer.

“Based on visitor feedback and analytics, we have made it even easier for people to get to our most popular services with as few clicks as possible – they can now check their bin collection day and colour straight from the home page, for example.

“Whilst we understand that many people will still wish to speak to a member of staff during office hours, for many people the convenience of a website makes contacting us easier and we’re pleased to be launching a refreshed site that will adapt and grow as people’s needs and interests change.”
