Owner of ‘driving dog’ could face charges

009A DRIVER caught on camera with a terrier on his lap has been reported for motoring offences, police have confirmed.

On Monday (May 23) a member of the public who was a passenger in a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction near Llangennech snapped a picture of the dog, which was sitting on the driver’s lap with paws on the steering wheel.

The incident was reported to police, who traced the driver through the car registration number.

A spokesperson for Dyfed Powys Police confirmed they had spoken to the driver: “A driver was caught on camera with his pet dog at the wheel of his car at 30mph. A fellow motorist was stunned to see the dog at the wheel on the lap of a driver.

“We were concerned not only for the welfare of the dog should the vehicle be in an accident but whether the driver was in proper control.”

“The vehicle was traced to an address in Llanelli where the driver fully cooperated with police and admitted the offence and was reported for the offences.”
