Parking spaces for hospital

Screen Shot 2016-03-16 at 11.53.10CONSTRUCTION work has started on creating 40 additional parking spaces and two motorbike spaces opposite the laundry department at Glangwili Hospital, Carmarthen.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is taking action to make it easier and safer for patients to park at the hospital. This work, which is part of several changes planned to relieve pressure on the Carmarthen hospital site whilst a bigger solution is developed, is due to be completed on April 1.

Chairman Bernardine Rees OBE said: “I know that car parking has been a great sense of frustration to our public so it’s good to see that construction work has started on the extra spaces. This will help to improve the parking facilities at Glangwili Hospital, recognising this is part of the permanent solution.

“I would ask that patients, staff and visitors bear with us while attending the hospital during this time as they may experience some inconvenience whilst this work is being carried out.

“I also urge patients and visitors going to Glangwili Hospital to use the park and ride scheme at Nantyci Showground, although we do recognise that this isn’t a solution for everyone.”

OTHER CHANGES INCLUDE:

Reinstating parking outside the Outpatient’s Department to patients and visitors only from March 1 2016.

Removing named parking spaces for consultants and creating a reduced number of reserved spaces to enable medical staff to attend for clinics.

Improving signage on the site and communication with patients and staff over transport issues, including providing information on appointment letters.

The Health Board is also considering other measures, including reviewing patient visiting times, negotiating with Carmarthenshire Council and Gwili Railway Management Committee regarding potential use of land near the hospital, and liaising with local bus companies about extending current routes to the Hospital site.
