Party leaders stake claim for Senedd

ballotboxWITH just over a week to go to the Welsh Assembly election, BBC Wales is ramping up its election coverage with a live televised leaders’ debate on Wednesday (Apr 27).
Huw Edwards will be hosting the debate, which will be held at St David’s Hall in Cardiff and broadcast at 8.30pm on BBC One Wales – and also on BBC News channel and BBC Radio Wales.
Leaders of Welsh Labour, the Welsh Conservatives, the Welsh Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, UKIP Wales and the Wales Green Party have been invited to debate some of the election campaign’s burning issues.
Mark O’Callaghan, BBC Wales Head of News and Current Affairs, says: “I am hoping that anyone who is interested in the future of the economy, health service and education in Wales will be watching our big Assembly Election debate on Wednesday. It is one of the key moments of our campaign and promises to be a fascinating clash between the leaders of the parties in Wales.”
BBC Wales Leaders’ Debate Live with Huw Edwards follows the successful Ask The Leader series on BBC One Wales. For the first time, BBC Wales hosted five debates, April 11-15, where leaders of the five main parties in Wales answered questions from a studio audience. Across the week, the series reached an audience of 316,000 in Wales, with viewers tuning in to find out what really concerns people and what the five leaders had to say for themselves.
