THE CONTEST is underway to replace the late Tom Theophilus as Cilycwm’s member of Carmarthenshire County Council.

Plaid Cymru has selected farmer Dafydd Tomos (58) of Penyfedw, Cilycwm, a director of Cilycwm Community Association and former clerk of Cilycwm Community Council.

His priorities include faster broadband speeds and better mobile network coverage.

He already hosts on his land a mast for delivering wireless broadband to people in Cilycwm.

“I’m standing to be the next councillor for the communities of Cilycwm, Llansadwrn and Llanwrda as I believe I have the experience, the commitment and the passion to advance the needs of the area, and deliver tangible benefits to the residents of North Carmarthenshire,” he said, adding that in the past, residents have ‘too often been ignored’.

Mr Tomos said he would like to ‘pay tribute to the service of the late Tom Theophilus, who served this ward faithfully and whose sudden death was a loss to all that knew him’.

Mr Theophilus, an Independent councillor, died on July 5 aged 84. The by-election to choose a successor will be on Thursday, September 22. Nominations close at 4pm on Thursday (Aug 25).
