The force is strong: Photos like this have helped Carmarthenshire Police pass 1000 followers

DYFED-POWYS POLICE’s Instagram profile for Carmarthenshire has broken the thousand followers’ barrier.

Police in Carmarthenshire are pleased with the response and welcome the support, but are keen for this to develop further.

Now police are asking Carmarthenshire residents to connect with the photo sharing site, follow ‘dyfedpowyscarms’ and comment on Instagram to say what they like and don’t like.

Instagram for Carmarthenshire was launched in March 2015 to trial a different way of communicating with a younger audience.

PCSO Jade Probert (Carmarthen) said: “We’d love to hear what it is people would like to see more of on our Instagram profile and what we should do less of.

“We’ve had a great response to photos that feature our police dogs, vehicles and our Mario Brothers lookalike policeman, so we know we need a mix of the cute, the cars and the funny, but are we missing something?

“Follow our ‘dyfedpowyscarms’ profile, review what we’ve done already and comment on our photos to let us know what we can do better.”

The Force already uses Twitter and Facebook but decided to trial Instagram after many young people in the community told police they use Instagram, rather than Facebook or Twitter.

Carmarthenshire’s Superintendent Claire Parmenter supports the use of Instagram for Dyfed Powys Police.

Supt Parmenter said: “Instagram for Carmarthenshire is different to our other social media platforms. Whereas we use Twitter to inform and update the community, Instagram is much more about giving an insight to policing in Carmarthenshire and showing the more human-side of the force.

“Social media is a continually growing and evolving method of communication that we need to integrate into our police work. Instagram is a different way of demonstrating to people the work we are undertaking to keep their communities safe.”
