Police issue advice following spate of thefts

POLICE have urged people not to leave expensive items and tools on display in their cars following a spate of thefts.

Officers responded to 14 reports of thefts from vehicles in the Carmarthen town and rural wards over the last month.

Temporary inspector Dylan Davies said: “I am urging people not to leave valuable items or tools out on display, which draw attention to your car.

“There has been a spate of thefts from cars over the past month, and the best way to avoid this is to take all valuable items with you when you leave your vehicle.”

Other things you can do to avoid being a victim of theft are:

  • Remove everything from the car; don’t even leave a jacket where it can be seen
  • Close the sunroof along with the windows when you leave
  • Don’t store things in the boot; take them with you
  • Store car ownership information in your home, not your car
  • Take mobile phones and sat nav equipment with you
