police-car-siren-image-1-87771461-300x199A FARMHAND who drove a quad bike on the A40 while under the influence of alcohol appeared before magistrates in Llanelli on Thursday (Apr 7).

Oskar Wilczynski, 28, of Plas Farm Llangynog, pleaded guilty to charges of driving with an alcohol level above the legal limit and driving without a licence. A charge of driving without insurance was dropped.

Prosecuting, Sharon Anderson told the court that shortly after midnight on March 16, the defendant had been seen driving a quad bike on the A40 near Meidrim without headlights or registration. After failing a roadside alcohol test, he was arrested.

A later sample showed a reading of 72mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – almost twice the legal limit.

Defending, Richard Morgan asked that Wilczynski be given credit for his early guilty plea. He explained that the defendant, who is originally from Poland, had been working and living on a farm in Llangynog for around five months.

He explained that the defendant, who had limited English, had not been aware that he needed a licence to ride a quad bike on the roads. However, Mr Morgan conceded that he had made a ‘mistake’ in drinking beer before riding the bike.

Mr Morgan said that Wilczynski was a ‘hard worker’ who was very sorry for what had happened.

Wilczynski was disqualified from driving on the roads for 20 months, fined £200, and ordered to pay costs of £105.
